Friday Night Fights: Dance Dance Revolution!

Well, here we are again. It’s the prize fight segment of Friday Night Fights, and we’ve got a theme designed solely to ruin my day. What’s the theme? Dance battles. Grrrrreat. I don’t have any comics with Vibe or Dazzler. In fact, I’m so out of ideas, I’m going to have to break the rules and go with a fight I’ve used before. So, as originally used back on March 22, 2013, here’s Scott Pilgrim vs. Matthew Patel from 2004’s Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Now, y’all go vote for your favorite fight — but make sure you don’t vote for this one, ’cause it sucks to use the same fight twice, and them’s the facts.

Friday Night Fights: Doom Squeezins!

Alright, kids, it’s the weekend! Whatcha gonna do to start things off? Darn your socks? NO! Mop the garage? NO! Go on Twitter and send threats to people because their race, gender, or sexual orientation differs from your own? NO! Hug adorable fluffy animals? Well, actually, that sounds like a great thing to do. But what we definitely will do to start the weekend is indulge in pointless comic-book violence! That means it’s time for… FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS!

Tonight’s battle comes to us from October 1971’s The Incredible Hulk #144 by Gary Friedrich, Roy Thomas, Dick Ayers, and John Powers Severin, as the Hulk meets up with the colossal villainy of Dr. Doom! Turns out Hulk likes to give hugs, too!

I have nothing more to say. I’m off to hug some adorable fluffy animals.

Friday Night Fights: Widow Maker!

Awright, kiddos, it’s Friday evening, we’re all ready to start recovering from the usual workweek stress, and we’re gonna kick the weekend off the right way — with FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS!

Tonight’s battle comes to us from July 1975’s Marvel Two-in-One #10 by Chris Claremont, Bob Brown, and Klaus Janson. While Ben Grimm is busy pulling a planet-destroying bomb off the sea floor, the Black Widow has to keep all the bad guys off his back. Can one woman beat the snot out of a hundred goons?

That’s gonna do it for me. Hope y’all have a great weekend — everyone have some fun and get some relaxation in while you can. And do me a favor — try to do at least one thing you’ll be able to look back on and be proud of. Life’s too short not to periodically do something awesome.

Friday Night Fights: Big Fight, Little Fight!

A busy, busy week — I spent almost the entire time moving from my apartment into a new house, and I wasn’t sure I’d actually have time to put this post together. But I did, and here we are — it’s time for… FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS!

Tonight’s battle comes from June/July 1978’s Secret Society of Super-Villains #15 by Bob Rozakis, Mike Vosburg, and Bob Smith, as Blockbuster goes after the Atom.

I’d come up with something snarky to say about all this — but I’ve got a few hundred boxes to unpack, so you guys have a great weekend.

Friday Night Fights: Wonder Whupass!

We’re gonna keep this short. If things turn out right, I’ll have gotten the closing done on the new house. If things don’t turn out right, it’s getting pushed back, which will make it harder to get all my stuff moved. Either way, things are about to be too busy for a whole lot of jibber-jabba. So here’s… FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS!

Tonight’s battle comes to us from February 1997’s JLA #2 by Grant Morrison, Howard Porter, and John Dell, as Wonder Woman meets up with Fluxus of the villainous Hyperclan.

That’ll do it. I should be able to post on Monday, but things will get good and busy after that. There’s a decent chance I’ll be too busy to come up with a post for Wednesday, but I’ll do what I can. At any rate, y’all have a great weekend.

Friday Night Fights: Tummy Time!

Alright, kids, this may be my last Friday Night Fights for a few weeks. There’s a decent chance I’ll be moving before the end of the month, and there’s a real good chance I’ll be too busy for a while packing up my stuff, getting everything moved, and getting my house set up to spend a lot of time digging up new fights to post. If I can post something up, I’ll do it, but y’all don’t expect me to prioritize the fights over moving.

Tonight’s battle comes to us from September 1981’s Batman vs. the Incredible Hulk by Len Wein, José Luis García-López, Dick Giordano, and Glynis Oliver. Batman meets up with the Hulk, fisticuffs ensue, and the Dark Knight figures he’ll balance the ridiculously long odds by hitting Green Genes with some knockout gas. Doesn’t turn out the way he plans, though…

A kick in the breadbasket by a normal man and a few lungfuls of gas is enough to KO the Hulk? I don’t buy it. But dig that awesome José Luis García-López artwork!

Friday Night Fights: Lazarus Punted!

Busy days ’round here, not much time for rigmarole, so let’s just jump right into it. It’s time for… FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS!

Tonight’s battle comes to us from March 2006’s Plastic Man #20 by Kyle Baker. Plas and company are way in the background, ’cause all the action in this one is between Wonder Woman and Ra’s al-Ghul.

Busy weeks and months ahead — anyone willing to sell me a refrigerator, washer, and drier for cheap? How am I ever gonna get moved into that dang house?

Friday Night Fights: Plant Punishment!

It’s Friday night at last, time for an all-too-brief break from work drudgery, so let’s get the party started with some… FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS!

Tonight’s battle comes to us from August 1999’s Detective Comics #735 by Greg Rucka, Dan Jurgens, and Bill Sienkiewicz. One of Clayface’s plots involved manipulating Poison Ivy, and she’s not happy about that.

Friday Night Fights: Evil Wins!

Awright, kids, it’s time for another dose of Friday Night Fights — this week’s fight comes to us from October 1990’s Captain America #378 by Mark Gruenwald, Ron Lim, Danny Bulanadi, and Steve Buccellato.

The Red Skull is muscling in on the crime business in New York City. The Kingpin tells him to lay off, and the Skull challenges him to a no weapons fight to determine who takes over the underworld and who leaves town.

And to make sure they’re not hiding any weapons, they both strip down to their underwear. Because apparently, what we comic book fans want is Nazis in their skivvies and fat guys in their skivvies. No wonder the industry is dying.

So the bad news is that the Kingpin is a ruthless criminal mastermind, and since he’s won, he’ll continue to make life hell for New York’s superheroes. But the good news is that the Nazi lost, and he lost by being bearhugged and smothered under a sweaty shirtless fat guy — because everyone hates Nazis. Huzzah for our hero Wilson Fisk!

Friday Night Fights: Wonderland Warfare!

I’m pert-near exhausted, and I ain’t got no time for clever intros this week, so let’s get straight into the Friday Night Fights action.

Tonight’s battle comes to us from April 2008’s Detective Comics #841 by Paul Dini, Dustin Nguyen, Derek Fridolfs, and John Kalisz. Tweedledee and Tweedledum pressured the Mad Hatter into participating in a Wonderland Gang — and it’s ended the way most criminal enterprises do in Gotham City: beaten down by the Batman and shipped off to Arkham. Luckily, Jervis Tetch is willing to forgive and forget…

That’ll do it for me this week. Y’all get as much rest as you can manage this weekend, and with any luck, I’ll see y’all back here on Monday.
